not-oom, for trudy

He's not been up to his room yet since he got back to the bar, but he's glad to see that it's still in the same condition as he left it once they step inside. Carl leans the rifle against the wall near the door and locks it behind Trudy once she's inside.

"It's almost frightening how much the prospect of sleeping in a true bed tonight excites me," he says, glancing towards the bedroom. He sets the backpack down near the closet, and then looks over at Trudy.

"But I'm not going in it until I get a shower."

It's an open invitation to join him if she wants, but he won't mind either way - his goal is to get the layers of dirt off of his skin - even a shave at this point would be a bonus.

"Yeah, call me when the first ten layers of dirt are off," she says, amused. She needs a shower herself, and she's going to take her flightsuit off before she sits down, but he's worse than she is.

Which means, for the moment, he needs to steal more water.

"Copy that," he replies. "It may be awhile."

Stepping into the bathroom, he leaves the door cracked before stripping off layers of dirty clothes. He drops them into the hamper and the sound of the taps running is followed shortly thereafter of the sound of the shower.

Ten minutes later, after he's washed his hair twice, and his body three times - the lather coming off his skin is no longer reddish-brown, but white - he calls for her to let her know he's clean.

While he's waiting, he rubs shaving cream into his beard, planning on letting it sit for awhile before trying to get the stubble off.

"Nice to see you lookin' human," she says once she's shucked off the rest of her clothes and slipped into the shower.

She wasn't ever as dirty as he was, but still, a day in the hangar isn't exactly a place to hang around if one worries about dirt underneath nails. Getting clean sounds like a real good idea right now.

"I looked human before," he protests. "Just...a real dirty one."

Carl doesn't bother to hide the once-over that Trudy gets as she steps into the shower, because he feels no need to - she is his girlfriend after all, and she's a sight for sore eyes after him being away for so long - and he steps out of the way of the spray to allow her access to the hot water.

"Yeah-huh," Trudy says, entertained. Her washing is quick, efficient, and not at all seductive; but hey, he's welcome to watch.

Finally, when the conditioner in her hair is settling in, she moves over and briefly leans against him.

"Hey."

He smiles, an expression which is somewhat comical in itself given the thin layer of shaving cream that coats his beard, and settles one of his hands against her hip.

"Hello, love."

He enjoys being able to say that.

"I missed you." Then, quickly, "which ain't your fault, the door's kinda unreliable. But it's good seein' you."

"I missed you too," he says. "That whole line about 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' is a load of crap as far as I'm concerned, but, I'll take gettin' to see you at all over not."

Even if he would like to speak to the manager about getting a more reliable connection to the bar.
